Our mission

We aim to galvanize the city’s working artists, providing an open space of creative exchange by way of the spoken and written word.

Upcoming events

SEPTEMBER 8 / OCTOBER 20 / NOVEMBER 10 / JANUARY 12 / FEBRUARY 9 / MARCH 9 / APRIL 13 / MAY 11/ Doors @ 7pm / Reading @7:30pm / @DISCO in Woodlawn / 5500 1st Ave N, Birmingham, AL 35212

DISCO

Our readings take place at the Desert Island Supply Co. in Birmingham's Woodlawn neighborhood. With a mission to give students the creative tools they need to explore and document their worlds, DISCO is a nonprofit creative writing program for students. They offer free after-school workshops plus in-school programs in area schools. Their space serves as a hub for creative community projects and events like NGMC.

Church Street Coffee & Books

Our visiting writers' books are stocked at Church Street Coffee & Books—home to the famous "break-up" cookie that we happily serve for FREE each month. Church Street also has daily fresh-baked vegan, gluten-free and cane sugar pastries plus a hand-picked literary catalog.

The Whiskey Thief

Our friends in the local cocktail laboratory—The Whiskey Thief—craft literary-inspired drinks from the freshest Alabama ingredients for each of our events.
